TechRadar reports that October 17th is the release date for Windows 8.1 which will address some of the issues that people have been complaining about with Windows 8. While using Windows 8 on the Surface RT isn’t bad, using on regular computer with a mouse and keyboard is a bit clunky. Microsoft says they were trying to create an OS that works across multiple devices.
But what about Server 2012 and the Surface 2?
For those of you already running Server 2012, Server 2012 R2 will be released at the same time.
October 22nd is the release date for the Surface 2, the next version of Microsoft’s tablet (TechRadar, Sept 24) While I generally like the Surface RT, I think Microsoft missed the boat by selling it originally for $499. Now the Surface 2 starts at $449, which I still think is too expensive especially when for another $50 you could get an iPad. They dropped the price of the Surface RT to $349, which are still available.
Over the summer, Microsoft ran a special for educational entities to get the Surface RT for $199. At that price point it is really nice tablet, especially since it comes with Microsoft Office 2013 installed. The Windows 8.1 update will include Outlook, which I think we’ll all look for to considering the Windows Mail app isn’t all that great.
